New Hope Baptist Church of Port Orange is, at this time, a group of about 80 Christ-followers. NHBC teaches the truth of the Bible in its worship services and in smaller Bible study groups. Our worship is traditional; our programs include youth ministries, children’s Sunday School, and Womens’ Bible Study.

Pastor
Rev. Dr. Robert Mulkey: Bob became pastor of New Hope in August 2006. He earned a B.A. degree in psychology from Furman University and the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Theology degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Bob has been pastor of churches in Louisville, in Columbia, SC and, for 21 years, in DeLand, Florida. His top gifts are teaching/preaching and counseling. His wife Fleda is a Reading Coach at Freedom Elementary School in Deland. He and Fleda have two grown children and one granddaughter.
Minister of Music
Rev. Dennis P. Bucher: Dennis is a native of New Orleans, LA, where he received the Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Loyola University of the South. After serving two years as an U.S. Army Officer and teaching choral music in the Richmond County Public School System in Augusta, GA, he answered a call to the ministry of music and returned to New Orleans to attend the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1962 he received the Master of Church Music. His service as a music minister includes Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, and First Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. In 1969, he auditioned for and became a charter member of The CenturyMen, a 100 voice Men’s Chorus of Ministers of Music from all over the United States. He and his wife of forty years until her death in 1998 retired from full time music ministry in July 1999. On September 1, 1999, he became the Minister of Music at New Hope Baptist Church, and he is an active member of The CenturyMen, and the Choral Union of Stetson University. Dennis has two married daughters, two sons in-law, two grandchildren, and two granddogs.
Instrumentalist
Armand Melnbardis has been our Instrumentalist since 1996. He faithfully accompanies our choir. Armand brings his unique style to hymns from the Baptist Hymnal. Our congregation appreciates his keyboard and violin solos because Armand always plays with heart and amazing creativity. He was born in Riga, Latvia, and began violin studies at age 5. He toured internationally beginning when he was 12. After one of his solo performances in Riga, visiting Professors from Stetson University offered him an opportunity to come to the US and continue his education as their student. In 1992 Armand became a Concertmaster of Stetson University Orchestra. He won the Stetson University Concerto Competition and A.S.T.A. Musicians' Competition in Miami. In 2004 and 2005 Armand was a featured soloist with the Ormond Beach Symphony Orchestra. You can also see Armand perform with the High Velocity Strings and Vio7.
Director of Children and Youth
Cheryl Secunda has been working with children and youth for more than 20 years. She started out working in children’s ministry when her children were young, wanting to be involved in their lives and the lives of other children. Her main goal as the Director of Children and Youth is to have the children she works with come to know Jesus as their Savior.Cheryl has worked in many areas of children and youth ministry including teaching Sunday School, Sunday School Director, Children’s Choir Director, VBS Director, Youth Director, and Children Ministry Director.Originally from Pennsylvania, she is married and has twin daughters and a son.She has a B.S. Degree in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida.On a voluntary basis she is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator and volunteers her mediation services for the Volusia County Small Claims Court in Daytona.
