New Hope Baptist Church of Port Orange is, at this time, a group of about 80 Christ-followers. NHBC teaches the truth of the Bible in its worship services and in smaller Bible study groups. Our worship is traditional; our programs include youth ministries, children’s Sunday School, and Womens’ Bible Study.

Pastor

Rev. Dr. Robert Mulkey: Bob became pastor of New Hope in August 2006. He earned a B.A. degree in psychology from Furman University and the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Theology degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Bob has been pastor of churches in Louisville, in Columbia, SC and, for 21 years, in DeLand, Florida. His top gifts are teaching/preaching and counseling. His wife Fleda is a Reading Coach at Freedom Elementary School in Deland. He and Fleda have two grown children and one granddaughter.


 


Minister of Music

Rev. Dennis P. Bucher: Dennis is a native of New Orleans, LA, where he received the Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Loyola University of the South. After serving two years as an U.S. Army Officer and teaching choral music in the Richmond County Public School System in Augusta, GA, he answered a call to the ministry of music and returned to New Orleans to attend the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1962 he received the Master of Church Music. His service as a music minister includes Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, and First Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. In 1969, he auditioned for and became a charter member of The CenturyMen, a 100 voice Men’s Chorus of Ministers of Music from all over the United States. He and his wife of forty years until her death in 1998 retired from full time music ministry in July 1999. On September 1, 1999, he became the Minister of Music at New Hope Baptist Church, and he is an active member of The CenturyMen, and the Choral Union of Stetson University. Dennis has two married daughters, two sons in-law, two grandchildren, and two granddogs.


 


Instrumentalist

Mary Ellen Galloway Is an accomplished pianist. She served for many years at First Baptist Church of DeLand as an accompanist and as the director of contemporary worship. She has also served at Stetson University as the accompanist of children’s choirs and of a number of soloists. She is a registered nurse working as lead nurse in the offices of oncology doctors Salassie and Sharma. She and her husband, Edge, are the parents of Alexandra, a freshman at the University of Florida and Nick who lives in Palo Alto, California.
